Day 49 - Another relaxing sea day

It is now light early and with the clocks back an hour, we had to struggle to sleep in to a respectable time and give the early gannets time to get away from the buffet.  As usual, we watched most of the TV Wake Show but it isn’t really compulsive viewing and only occasionally, do we put our answers into the daily draw.
I have no idea whether or not I have put on weight and quite frankly, I don’t really care, just as long as I haven’t grown out of my clothes.  Aren’t elastic waistbands fantastic?
There wasn’t much on our schedule for the day and after morning quiz, we just relaxed then went down for a late morning coffee before it was time for Paula to get all frazzled, watching the fifth set of the Djokovich match.  Thank goodness he won, otherwise she would have been ropable.
Afternoon trivia was early, at 2:30pm.
As mentioned earlier, this must be the first cruise we have done where we have been very disappointed with the cruise entertainment staff.  Afternoon trivia had about 6 Aussie specific questions and a grossly wrong answer to this one.  “Bicycle manufacture didn’t start before 1918.  True or false?”  According to Kelly, that was true.
As Raleigh bicycles alone won no less than 2,300 races back in 1892, how wrong can you be?  When challenged, she was arrogantly dismissive “It is only trivia – ha, ha, ha…”  Why bother?
Apparently Mr Quiet, the DJ has also gone.  Under what circumstances we have no idea and as yet, we haven’t spied the replacement, Sascha.
A late lunch of crumbed prawns, a slice of pork loin, a small piece of fish and a piece of chicken in a Spanish sauce and some pasta.  Not a lot, just plenty of variety.
A relaxing afternoon, a blog catch up and a couple of emails, as thoughts turn to packing items we don’t think will be required until we return to NZ.  As stuff comes back from the laundry (no hiccups so far) some is going straight into the cases.  There may be a partial repack after the Royal cruise of course, as we may manage with just one case.
Today, we had a useful email, regarding what to expect on board.  Thrilled to know that the Beatles Tribute band are on and also one of my favourites, comedian David Copperfield.  Quite how the Americans will take to his act is anyone’s guess as I suspect most won’t have read the Princess Patter and will be expecting the US illusionist!  If we go by the Cruise Critic roll call, there may well be more Americans and Canadians than Brits - unless the Brits haven’t bothered signing up of course.
The early theatre show was USA vocalist Jennifer Fair.  Had we known she was an operatic soprano, we probably wouldn’t have gone, but we couldn’t deny she had a tremendous voice.  My own favourite was an Edith Piaf tribute with a slide background.  Pity the guy behind us kept nattering on about how amazing she was - whilst she was still singing.
After dinner, an excellent lamb rack/chops again and Paula opted for the concoction in the photograph.  Part of the Princess 50th celebrations are a few chocolate specials.  Inside were a couple of layers of mousse on a biscuit base, but it proved too rich for us even though I did have a go at it to assist.
Off to the late show in the Vista lounge, to a fairly sparse crowd, comedy magician, Scotty McLean, another act new to us.  For the first 15 minutes, he hardly raised a titter and then the two or three tricks he actually did do in the 45 minute slot, weren’t exactly new either, so not an act we’d bother go to and see again.
Our stop tomorrow is Lisbon and a midday arrival, with a promised lunch ashore with our afternoon trivia team.   Also tomorrow, open dining and dinner with our morning trivia team.  We haven’t been to Lisbon since 2011, when for those who have read the earlier blog, may remember we hired those self-drive, bright yellow, 3 wheeler, Go-Cars.  We had a great time but didn’t see a lot of Lisbon. Maybe tomorrow we will.
