As we anticipated noise from the Venice port area, we slept with the balcony door closed so it was no surprise that Paula was a bit bunged up again. Yet another relaxed start to the day as we opted to stay on board and just enjoy the morning and breakfast. There weren’t many to compete against at trivia and we were the only members of our team present, to welcome new cruise staffer, Canadian, Tina. She isn’t a Junior and has crewed around Australia before so some will know her.
Just for a change, we did indeed call in on the gym and yes, the scales are dubious(!). Paula opted for ten minutes cycling and I had to wait patiently as one of just two others in the gym crawled off the rowing machine. Yes, there is only one.
Just before we left, the P & O (UK) ship Oceana, berthed opposite. It looks to be similar to the Sea Princess, but has a better paint job, but no MUTS screen.
On the Sea Princess at the moment, there are several people around measuring up, (deck 7 Atrium), cutting out templates (the wooden steps on deck 12) and at last, fixing the starboard side hot water/coffee system – but the port side is also out of action - plus men walking around with laptops peering into various cupboards/cabinets fire systems etc. Presumably, this is all to do with the upcoming refit later in the year.
At 1:30pm, we backed out, under the command of our replacement Captain, Paolo Ravera, an Italian now living in Germany, ready for our trip back out through Venice, out of Italy and on to Dubrovnik.
The sail out during a bright sunny afternoon is as good a time as any and having previously done the sail in early in the morning, and a sail out late at night, this was a pleasant change. We watched from our cabin and took a few more pics – as if we don’t have enough already!
The lunchtime lamb ragout was very good and hearty and we returned to the cabin until it was time for trivia. Madison ran it and that meant 21 questions, with a Canadian question as #21. We got 20 – as they were mostly repeats and got the wrong fashion designer so weren’t in the playoff. Just 4 of us as Teri and Alex had walked their legs off and needed a rest – and Alex seems to have suffered some form of heat rash.
Dinner, there were six of us on the table and somewhat reluctantly, we headed for the theatre. At the entrance, this time we had a chat with another of the dancers – Sam from Doncaster, who had her boyfriend with her. Why reluctantly? The last time we saw this comedian, Al Brown, I only gave him a 6/10. This time, I barely raised a smile. Too much repeated material. He boldly made the statement that unlike other comedians, he didn’t tell jokes, just life’s observations. Strange that he is the third comedian to tell the same joke about being at the doctor regarding diet and being asked what the lightest he’d been - 6lb 7oz. Down to a 5.5/10 and that is being generous.
We should have gone to the cabin and then we wouldn’t have missed the beginning of Moonraker…
Dubrovnik tomorrow at 9am and we are just taking the ship’s shuttle and we’ll then probably walk the wall.
