Despite the rock ‘n’ roll night, after a Coldral, I slept quite well, though others weren’t so lucky. We heard several tales of drawers flung open and out, with the contents scattered on the floor, glass broken and water ingress. I’m no carpenter, but I’m pretty sure that I could come up with a simple way to stop the drawers flying open!
By the time we got up, the weather had settled down as had the sea. The Captain had successfully avoided the worst of the weather and as expected, our arrival in Dubai will now be about 10am rather than 7am.
Sandy’s Dave, part of our Seafarers and Ship Kicker’s trivia teams and leading light of our Cruise Critic group, hadn’t been well for a few days and was diagnosed by the Doc as having vertigo, so he is now a few dollars lighter and has a supply of pills. We hope he gets well soon.
Unlike previous cruises, there was no problem finding a lounger on deck 12 where we spent a couple of hours reading and we never made it as far as the buffet for lunch either. The aroma of freshly cooked chips proved irresistible so we ate out on deck 12 with a couple of slivers of meat from the kebab spit, the hot chips, some gherkins, mustard and tomato sauce. More than adequate – almost. Sitting between the grill and the ice cream bar a dollop of soft serve did nicely to finish it off fr Paula. Well, why not? Unlike some other cruise lines, soft serve ice cream is free. One day, we need to sit down and check the differences between the various cruise lines, as they seem to differ substantially as to what is paid for, what is free, what facilities are on board and what are not.
The photographs of the pastry buffet show what was on offer in the Horizon Court at the same time, so I think we did pretty well to avoid that temptation. Not sure that our good friends the Thorpes would have shown such strength of character… The earlier pics are from the napkin folding demo - which we didn’t watch.
Jill’s cruise long trivia is a stinker, but we are persevering. We’ll be sad when she gets off in Venice as she is such a bundle of laughs – some of them unintentional of course.
We missed the pop choir performance, led by DD Victoria, which we gather was very successful.
The early show was the mentalist and Don Bryan again. Let’s just say that the second half of that show was more entertaining than the first half.
Dinner was OK and on the way out, I sold June to junior waiter Bong - for 8 camels, much to his amusement.
June asked what we were laughing at, so I told her. I also told her that he didn’t even bother bartering and I would have let her go for just 3 camels…
A bit more chatting instead of Scarlett Kennedy’s second show and then to the cabin, sorry, state room, ready for a day of intense dry heat in Dubai tomorrow.
Hutch’s port lecture on Dubai, just like the port lecturers in the past, emphasised the dress code, for women, but we know from past experience, that Dubai is a little more relaxed and that unless you are going into a mosque, then just being sensible is enough.
Unlike an arrival by air in Dubai, arrival by cruise ship is a breeze and one of the easiest of all ports and we know that two HoHo bus companies and taxis will be at the terminal. We have heard nothing about any other shuttles, either paid or free, but walking anywhere is out of the question. So a sensible bed time and no panic tomorrow morning.
